‘Several injured’ on East London train after passenger’s battery Power Bank explodes

There was ‘sheer terror and panic’ on the train at Dalston Kingsland station when the explosion happened with one witness saying people had jumped onto the tracks.

It is believed that the battery of a drill had overheated and started billowing smoke.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious and TfL reopened the station nearly an hour after it was closed.

Greggs was giving free teas, coffees and sausage rolls to members of emergency services.
Services along the line were severely disrupted and Hackney Council described there as being several ‘walking wounded’.

Pictures from the scene show the station was closed and numerous police officers and fire crews were at the station.
A sign at the entrance to the station said. ‘due to an emergency there are currently no trains in both directions. Please use Dalston Junction.’
British Transport Police said: ‘We are at Dalston Kingsland supporting London Fire following a fire alert. This incident is not suspicious.’
