TYPES OF SIM CARDS

Many people are still confused on what sim card their mobile device use. Some cant differentiate between a macro sim card and nano sim card as it always sounds techy and geeky to them. No it is not, it is as easy as differentiating your right hand from left.

There are three types of SIM cards currently used for our daily gadgets.

1. Mini SIM: This is the most common type of sim cards and it is usually regarded as the regular or standard type of sim card. This is the sim that was used to power older devices such as Nokia 3310, 3110 Classic and the likes. It is so popular and widely used that other type of sim cards are detached from a mini sim. It measures 25 mm in length, 15 mm wide and height of 0.76.

2. Micro SIM: This is a more recent type of sim card that is used to power newer smartphones. Most telecommunication companies already manufacture the Micro SIM but put it in a mini sim jacket for easy detachment. It is 15mm long, 12 mm wide and shares same height with mini sim at 0.76. Popular devices that uses micro sim are iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S5, recent models of infinix phones and more newer devices.

3. Nano SIM: This happens to be the latest and newest addition to the sim card family. It is particularly used to power high end phones and gadgets and as the name implies, the smallest of all. Devices that make use of nano sim are not limited to ones listed below iPhone 5 (including the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C), iPhone 6 / 6 Plus, iPad Mini and Air, HTC One (M8), Sony Xperia Z3 etc. Its measurement stands at 12.30 length, 8.80 width and 0.67 height.

Note

There also happen to be an older version of sim card that powered older devices called Macro Sim. This is the eldest and biggest of the family but it is relatively unknown.
